We stock three plain cotton canvases, in 8oz, 10oz and 12oz, plus a striped cotton ticking. This guide compares them by weight, width and finish so you can choose between them.

Choosing a weight
Our plain canvases are sold by their weight in ounces: the higher the number, the heavier and firmer the cloth. 12oz is our heaviest and 8oz our lightest. All three are listed for painting, and the 10oz and 12oz are the classic artist painting canvases.
Choosing a width
The 8oz is 94cm wide, so it suits work that fits within that width. The 10oz and 12oz are both 183cm wide, which lets you stretch large canvases from one piece. If you need the width, choose between those two by weight.
Loom state
The 8oz and 10oz are loom state: unbleached and unwashed, straight from the loom. Loom-state cloth shrinks when it gets wet, so allow for this before you cut.
Ticking
Our cotton canvas ticking is a lighter cloth at 196gsm and 137cm wide, woven with a classic stripe. It's listed for soft furnishings, craft and clothing rather than painting.
